Regrettably missed the Photography Show in the past couple years, my wife and I have managed attend the show in March this year at the NEC Birmingham, which is now conveniently located closed to our new home.
We spent hours and hours browsing the splendour of photographic equipment. Just when we were making our way out, my wife pulled me towards a stall – My Local Calendar – not something that would normally catch my eyes in a photography exhibition full of new technologies. The young lady at the stall approached us and asked whether we were interested in landscape photography and calendars. I held back thinking this was another ‘customised calendar printing service’. Yes…I admit that I completely missed the sign ‘Landscape Photographer Needed’! My wife obviously noticed the sign and urged me to stay. Despite my glazed look, she professionally explained their mission in finding photographers to take part in landscape calendar projects for their local town/city. This would involve performing professional photo shoot of local spots, editing the photos and selling the calendar yourself or to the local retailers.
Sounds like the TV programme series – Apprentice, doesn’t it? Do you recall the recurrent scenes where the Creative team and Sales team pointed at each other around the table; and Lord Sugar pointed at the Project Manager and said ‘You Are Fired!’? This led me to think if I was to take up this project, I would be the Project Manager, the Creative Director, the Sales Manager, and ‘Lord’ Chong! So if my calendars do not sell, am I going to fire myself?
Feeling dubious about my ‘top-notch’ sales skills but excited about the photography aspect, this would potentially open up a fantastic opportunity. Nudged by my wife, I decided to engage in it.
And here comes the real challenge – SOLIHULL! It only became my local district 6 months ago. According to U-Switch survey 2015, it is the best place to live in ‘England’ but that is all I know about it. So I will now go on an adventure to explore it and be the real local!
